Since his inauguration into the White House on January 20 this year, President Trump, the 47th President of the United States of America has made decrees that have sent shock waves across global economies. Withdrawal from World Health Organization, Recognition of two sexes male and female, pulling out of Paris Climate Accord, ending birthing Citizenship, and Renaming the Gulf of Mexico, are among the changes introduced by Trump.

Each of the executive orders has its potential impacts to the residents of the United States and the globe. Jurisdictions to deport and hinder immigration of other citizens in the US, for example, continues to jeopardize many Kenyans. Revocation of citizenship for children born in the US by immigrants whispers discomfort and clamor in the hearts of many people.

The economic repercussions in Kenya since Trump took over from Joe Biden has been felt. A slow growth rate of 2.2 percent of remittances sent in Kenya was recorded for the first quarter of this year compared to 18.8 percent growth rate in 2024. The slow growth corresponds with the assumption of office of Donald Trump. His assumption into office came with a raft of radical anti-immigrant policies,      criss crossed with mass deportation.

Kenyans living abroad are the leading in remittances sent to Kenya amounting to 55.4% of all the remittances received home. With the threat of mass deportation and ending birthing citizenship, Kenyans living abroad have to think home as they work in the US. Unlike in the past where a child born in the US automatically became a US citizen, under the Trump regime, the child will not get US citizenship if the executive order is implemented. The move is meant to destruct immigrants from enjoying the liberties that come with US citizenship.

Going forward, it will only be wise for Kenyans in the US to invest back in Kenya for their sake and their young ones. Trump is once again proving to immigrants there is a need to think of their country as a place to live and invest. Home Afrika provides the leeway to invest back home at any time.
